There are numerous ways a Dual Trained Service Dog can provide assistance, depending on the specific needs of each client. These dogs can be trained for combinations such as Autism & Seizure Service, Seizures & Mobility Assistance, Diabetic & Seizure Alert, and more. We recognize that there are many other diagnoses not listed, and we strive to accommodate most disabilities that can benefit from a service dog, including POTS, Down Syndrome, SPD, Severe Migraines and others.
Our program is dedicated to tailored training to ensure it meets the unique needs and lifestyle of each client. When potential clients inquire about how a service dog can help their situation, we first review their specific needs to determine the appropriate training program & educate ourselves in their disability. To facilitate this process, we use a detailed 16-page application, along with requests for videos, additional information, and a zoom call assessment. This approach enables us to accurately match each client with the right dog and training regimen.
Our dogs begin their journey in our puppy-raising program, where they undergo bi-weekly testing to determine their best-fit program or programs when its dual trained service dog.
Each dog is meticulously selected and temperament-tested by our trainers for their specific roles. Upon completing this initial phase, they enter obedience training, where they learn essential commands such as heel, sit, down, auto sits, come, leave it, bed, and load up. Our training approach involves nurturing the dogs in both our facility and our trainers' homes, acclimating them to a family environment and easing their transition into their new homes.
Obedience training forms the foundation of our program, and every dog must pass our rigorous obedience test, demonstrating proficiency both on and off-leash in varied distraction settings. This ensures they meet the standards required to progress to the next stage of their training.
The second step is public access. We begin by reinforcing all obedience training in a low-distraction environment, such as a store when its not too busy. We gradually work our way up to higher distraction environments such as busy shopping centers, restaurants and office buildings. Once we have good, consistent obedience in high-distraction environments, we throw in some of our own distractions to test the dog’s ability to successfully handle them. We train the dog around your daily routines—for example, if your child rides the bus to school, we'll train the dog on our city's public transportation. While in training we also bring our dog around in different transportation, such as vehicles, buses, commercial airlines, and elevators. Before moving on to the last step, they are tested in public access, making sure they are ready for the final step in training.
Subsequent training steps are customized based on the specific type of service dog required, taking into account the client's disability, particular needs, and required tasks. Given the wide range of diagnoses and disabilities we accommodate, we encourage prospective clients to speak directly with a team member over the phone for detailed information. This allows us to provide personalized guidance and answer any questions regarding our services.
Please note that our service dogs are offered at cost and are not covered by health insurance. The total cost varies based on factors such as specific training needs, delivery location, pick-up or delivery options, and breed selection.
